RLSAS Club Competitions

We hold a number of club competitions throughout the year. These range from the club championships, which are taken quite seriously by some archers, to the fun events which are intended to provide a break from the more conventional shoots.

RLSAS Club Championships

Outdoor Championships

The club outdoor championship is held in August or September and consists of the FITA rounds for seniors and juniors. The competition is open to all members of the club but does require you to be able to shoot the maximum distance for your age group. Being a 12-dozen round, it is an all day shoot and we have a lunch-break half way through. Winners of this event, both made score and handicap adjusted, are presented with trophies at the following AGM.

Indoor Championships

The club indoor championships are held in January or February on separate normal club nights and are open to all members. The seniors shoot a FITA 18 and the juniors shoot a Portsmouth. As these are relatively short distance rounds all members are encouraged to take part. Again there are awards for both made score and handicap adjusted scores which are presented at the following AGM.

Other Club Competitions

These competitions are really just for fun. Although they are run as competitions, for most archers the final score is far less important than the enjoyment of the event. Some archers even take the opportunity to shoot a discipline they don't usually, such as longbow or barebow. Definitely events for members of all abilities.

The New Years Day Clout

The first shoot of the new year, this is the perfect cure for a hangover!! We aim to do a double one-way clout shoot with a break between for hot punch and mince pies, or coffee and whatever goodies people have brought along (plus a warm up in the club pavillion).

The Spring Field Shoot

We like to do a field shoot early in the outdoor season, but since there is no longer a public field course within easy travelling distance we set up our own temporary short field course around our own field.

The Summer Clout

As the New Years Day Clout is always a fairly chilly event we also shoot a clout in the summer. This is also a double one-way clout, but this time with a barbeque during the mid-shoot break.

The Autumn Starlight Shoot

To mark the end of the outdoor season we have a starlight shoot. This is an evening shoot with floodlit targets and everyone shoots 3 dozen at 30 metres, We round off the evening with a barbeque.

The Winter Worcester

At some point during the indoor season we devote an evening to the Worcester round as this is an unusual round shot on a non-standard face. For many archers this will be the only opportunity to shoot the Worcester during the year.

Indoor Fun Shoots

Just before Christmas and, usually, at the end of the indoor season we hold a fun shoot which can take many forms, depending upon the ingenuity of our field captain. There are often strange targets to shoot at, balloons to burst, sweets to win and on a couple of recent occasions we even had to make our own bows from bamboo canes (remarkably successfully too). The Christmas shoot usually sees a number of silly hats and tinsel decorated longrods too!!
