Starlight Shoot - September 2006
Following last years very successful starlight shoot, we decided to do it again as a fun evening to mark the end of the outdoor season. Consequently Friday 29 September was set aside for this exciting event. Unfortunately, on the day it had rained a lot which probably put some people off, but the more intrepid members turned up and were rewarded with a wonderful evening. The rain stopped just before we started shooting at 7 o'clock and it was unseasonably warm with no wind at all, so conditions were perfect. We had targets set out at 30m and illuminated with floodlights powered by generators. 3 dozen arrows were shot and scored as it got progressively darker but as the cloud cleared the stars came out and some archers even spent time spotting constellations. We also spent time hunting for the inevitable misses, which are even harder to find in the dark, but fortunately all were found fairly quickly. It's certainly an incentive not to miss and torches came in very handy. Finally the scores were totted up and we all retired to the barbeque to while away the rest of the evening with some well cooked food and a drink or two.
